A Little Progress
Here’s an update on my latest project titled “The Fall of Akui.”
I am past 1500 words. Since this is going to be a short story, so my ceiling is 8k with the finished tale probably hitting somewhere between 5k and 7k.
Most of the elements are in place. I think the opening set a good mood/tone for the piece. In a lot of my work I use weather to help set the mood. A really nice drizzle can do so much for a scene. In this case however it is snow and wind at dusk. I think the reader will immediately know that things are not going well.
Here is a small (tiny really) excerpt of dialog from my journal. It has not made it into the story just yet.
— START —
Master Bo’s face wrinkled slightly more in concentration. Exhaling deeply he brought his hands together in a gentle motion and bowed to the East. The mass of rodents parted like a brook cut in half by a stubborn rock.
“Rats. A dismal example of power. Come child, help me along” Nan ordered Yuuki.
“I am no mewing kitten Mistress. Please try to remember that,” Yuuki asked politely.
“Feh. What do you know of age?” Nan retorted.
“One hundred years of servitude to the Spirits, plus fifty before that. And a hundred more to come. To me all are as blind little children in their kindles. Even this older one,” She said waving her cane at Bo.
“Concern yourselves with the task at hand. We’re down two of our number,” groused Bo.
“Do not worry yourself so,” Nan told Bo. “Kahji is serving a larger purpose. As for Uragiru…He is merely playing out the role allotted to him.”
— END —
As noted, this is just a tiny little excerpt from my journal. I am continuing to plug away at sketches and the text. I would love to have the text roughed out by the end of next week. We’ll just have to see what happens.
Thanks for dropping by.
